Struggle with sin
How can a young man keep his way pure? Sin is a universal struggle. The question is not will we sin, but how can we establish a safeguard to halt our habit of sin and maintain practical holiness. We must Stand against sin.
Solution for sin
. . . according to your word. God's word is the buffer to bad behavior. It is our knowledge of God's word that instructs us in holiness and enables us to keep our way pure. Later in the Psalm we read, I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you (Ps 119:11). We must Secure and Store the Scriptures!
Sentinel to guard against sin
By guarding it . . . the word known is not the word applied. A simple knowledge of the Bible doesn't prevent us from sinning, it is only when we appropriate the word of God to be a guard against our sinful thoughts and intentions that personal holiness can be maintained. We must Set the Sentinel!
