the 365 Journey
Outline Week 52
Rev 7:9-10
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
One day in Heaven believers from throughout the world will stand before Jesus. This will be a massive number of people from every time, tribe and tongue from every part of the globe. A great multitude before their Lord. They will stand together as one community, clothed in white robes and crying out in worship to their Lord.
This vision of our future gives us hope through the hardest times that one day all will be well.
We are encouraged to endure as we consider three things about this throng gathered before the throne and before the Lamb:
Their Community
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,
When we think of our church family, we consider a band of believers from our area who come together each week for fellowship, study and worship. But in the scope of the number saints, we are but a minuscule part of the much larger community of the committed.
Our text gives us a much bigger perspective. We are told that in this multitude of believers there was someone from "every" nation and from "all" tribes and peoples and languages. If you just consider the languages of the world there are approximately 7,600 of them. Then when you consider the possibly 24,000 people groups worldwide it is no wonder this community of Christians is so massive "that no one could number" them.
The body of Christ that will assemble in glory is so much greater than our local group.
Their Clothing
clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
Notice that they were wearing white robes. The significance of the white garments must not go unnoticed. We are those whose raiments have been soiled with sin. Our so called righteous acts are like filthy rags before a holy God (Is 64:6). Like this global gathering, to stand before the Lord, we must wash our robes making them "white in the blood of the lamb" (Rev 7:14).
Only those who have by faith trusted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior will have there robes "washed in the blood of the lamb". They will be the ones who can stand in white garments before Him (Zech 3:3-4). His cleansing makes them part of His community.
Their Cry
crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
This then is the response of all who have been saved, those whose sin stained apparel has been made clean and white. Their cry is toward Christ. Their affirmation is like that of the disciples of old, "and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12). They worship their reigning resurrected Lord and King.
