Outline Week 32

Jeremiah 31:34

. . . For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

We live in a world where people may forgive our short comings, but they seldom forget them. In our text, Jeremiah reminds us that God does both. He forgives and He forgets.

Here are three things that will help you to hold on to God's promises to cleanse you and clear you of your sin. So when your past sin haunts your memory and holds you captive remember your

Condition because of Sin

their iniquity . . . their sin

Is 59-1-2 tells us the devastating and destructive effects of sin, ". . . your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear." Sin separates us from God, it turns His face away from us. This rift remains until we address and admit our sin and seek His forgiveness.

Cleansing from Sin

I will forgive

Here is the 1st promise made to those who have fallen into sin and are willing to turn from their sins and trust the Lord to forgive them and cleanse them their sin. The sinless life, sacrificial death and the supernatural resurrection of Jesus provides ultimate and complete forgiveness for all our sin. Peter reminds us that, ". . .everyone who believes in him (Jesus) receives forgiveness of sins through his name. " (Acts 10:43). In Him we find our sin forgiven. We are cleansed.

Clearing of Sin

I will remember their sin no more.

Here is the 2nd promise in our text for those who have fallen into sin. God promises to erase every thought or memory of the sin of a penitent sinner. Isaiah tells that God says, "I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sin." (Is 43:25). Your sin no longer exist, it cannot be found, it is as if it never happened. In the Lord we find our sin forgotten. We are cleared. It is no more. We have a clean slate. You have a fresh start.
