Little Things

Updated: Aug 8

Today's Bible Reading: SONG 1:1-8:14

Song of Solomon 2:15

Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.

Often little things destroy what has blossomed. Vineyards are placed on trellises to allow the grapes to drop down without touching the ground. When the vineyards are full grown one can only see the tops of the vine, they don’t have full view of the fruit growing below the vines. Predators can easily slip under the vines undetected to devour the fruit.

In the text the little foxes are depicted as those “little things” that sneak in and dine on the drooping fruit. So caution is given to the watchful vinedresser to look for and catch these little foxes.

Here is a great lesson for the faithful follower, as we journey and grow in our Christian pilgrimage, we push aside the major sins that captivate and control us. The “big ones” are easily recognized and removed from our walk. But it is those lurking and lingering pesky “little sins” that creep in and gnaw at fruit that has developed on our vine. They sneak in and rob us of our productivity. They destroy what has developed.

Often, we respond to these intrusive entrenched “little sins” either by overlooking them, accommodating them or seeking to justify them, rather than trapping and eradicate them. This is a fatal flaw that cannot be dismissed or disregarded by those who seek to grow in godliness. All who seek to mature in their faith must “catch the little foxes”.

Therefore, like a vigilant keeper of the vineyard, we must take due diligence to discover and catch those crafty seeming insignificant fleshly traits that would invade our spiritually fruitful vineyard. They are the ones that creep in unnoticed and undetected to devour our ripe spiritual fruit.

So, don’t overlook or disregard the “little foxes” of the flesh, the “sneaky sins” that find easy access into our blossoming spiritual life. You must identify them and eradicate them before they work their destructive work to defeat your spiritual progress.

Today ask the Lord to help you identify your "little foxes". Thank Him that He can give you the power and ability to remove them before they ruin your blossoming vineyard. Ask Him to help you to catch the "foxes'.
