The 365 Journey
Outline Week 35
1 Chronicles 5:20
And when they prevailed over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea because they trusted in him.
When turmoil arises we are not always capable of handling the situation. We often require assistance in managing our life. In the struggles that we face we can find the help we need in trusting another for aid. Like the valiant warriors of old we must understand three things to be victorious in our battles. They are the
Truth we must Face in the battle
When we encounter difficulty beyond our capability or capacity to handle it, we must face the truth that we need help. We must realize that if we keep fighting unaided we will fail. Even though the men in our text were. "valiant men who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, expert in war" (1Chron. 55:18), they still needed the aid of the Almighty to prevail "over them". The truth is we must trust another to triumph.
Trust we must have because they trusted in him.
Our text asserts that their enemy was "given into their hands" because of the one in whom they placed their trust. A misplaced trust can lead to tragedy. Their hope was not in what they held in their hand, but in heaven.
Turn we must make for they cried out to God
At the inception of our battles we must intercede. We must not delay to beech the Lord to deliver us. Here we find that it is paramount that we plead for help in the point of our peril.
Notice in the text that they "cried out to God". They didn't seek the support of their surrounding allies, but that of their sovereign Lord. It was His strong arm that they hoped would aid them in their battle.
Notice also the intensity of their struggle. We are told they made an "urgent plea" for divine help. This was no ordinary conflict. It was bigger then the best of them could handle. Heavenly help was needed and necessary.
The Lord heard their cry and they "prevailed" in their struggle. We are told that it was the hand of God that gave the enemy "into their hands". He turned the battle when they turned to Him in their battle.
