Restore Us

Updated: Aug 22

Lamentations 5:21

Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old.

There is within most of us who have fallen a deep desire to be restored. There is a yearning once again to be in a right relationship with the Lord. We seek to return. We long to be back in fellowship. Yet it seems that as we try to come back we collapse. We fail in our attempt. Our sin has such a hold on us that we are sucked back into its spiral. We fall again and again. Our quest is halted. Rather than return to the Lord, we return to sin. We revert back to our habitual sin.

Here is a cry of God’s people who have fallen to be restored. They realize that the path to restoration can only occur through Him. All their attempts to change have proved in vain. All their resolve to return has failed. Like them, our hope is not in ourselves or our feeble efforts to adjust our attitude and actions, but in another.

It is in Christ we find our ruin restored and our failures forgiven. It is by Him that we are redeemer in our rebellion. It is by Him that we are continually saved from our sin. He has saved us once and for all from the penalty of our sin and He continues to save us daily from the problem of our sin. He is our savior. It is through Him that we can stand in the presence of our sovereign. He is the one who will reinstate our relationship. It is by Him that we are restored. It is not by our works, but by His work. It is not by our trying, but by His dying. It is not by our life, but by His living. Restore us oh Lord in the righteous one and we will be restored. We were ruined, but we are not ruined forever. He has redeemed us. He will restore us. He will renew us. All our praise goes to Him.

Today thank the Lord that He forever lives to save us from our sin, not just once for all, but every day in every sin. Thank Him that although we have fallen in to ruin He is faithful to revive us and restore us. Rejoice that even though we have a tendency to transgress again and again, He stands ready to restore and renew us. Plead with Him to help you not to fall into sin and praise Him that He is faithful to restore us in our ruin.
