Compassion in the midst of Compromise

 

Psalm 78:38

Yet he, being compassionate, atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them; he restrained his anger often and did not stir up all his wrath.

 

The compromise of the people (v 36-37) against the compassion for God

 

God Demonstrated His Love for His compromising people by His

 

Care for them yet he (But He) v 12-16, 20, 23-29

 

Constraint over them did not destroy them; he restrained his anger often and did not stir up all his wrath. v 40-41 Ps 103 8- 10 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.

He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

 

Compassion toward them being compassionate, v 39 Ps 103:14 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.

 

Cleansing of them (Forgiveness of God) atoned for their iniquity  Ps 103: For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

 

God is provoked every day, yet is he slow to anger. John Strickland
