Dr Buddy Young is the founder and instructor of the Panhandle Swim School.

He has been around swimming his whole life. He grew up in Hawaii and was a surfer through his teenage years. Later when he moved to the Gulf Coast of Texas he continued his love of water, surfing, and formed the Master's Surf team.

While in college he was a lifeguard, a WSI swim instructor and a pool manager in Nacogdoches, Bryan, and Austin, Texas. In Graduate school, he founded and coached a YMCA youth swim team for 3 years. Later in 2008 he founded and was the USA certified head coach of the Canyon Swim Team and remained the head coach until 2018. He was instrumental in establishing UIL swimming in the Canyon Independent School district.  He has participated in several Triathlons and many open water long distance swims.

Coach Young also conducted several swim camps of 40+ kids. He developed a special technique to teach a child who could swim at least 10 yards to swim 25 to 50 yards by the third day of the camp. He uses this and other unique techniques that he has perfected in his many years of swim instruction and coaching to help him effectively and efficiently teach individuals to swim.

His greatest accomplishment has been teaching his children and grandchildren to swim at a very early age. He has used the skills he taught them to develop his Preschool Survival Swimming Model.
