Today's Bible Reading: EZEKIEL 44:1-46:24
Ezekiel 46:15
Thus the lamb and the meal offering and the oil shall be provided, morning by morning, for a regular burnt offering.
Regularity in life is hard. We want to have routines but we have trouble maintaining them. Things come up, situations arise and our plans change causing or discipline to be derailed. Our course curves and we make concessions. Life happens and consistence collapses.
In Biblical times the temple was a place to meet God. It is where one went to encounter His presence. Everyday people came. Their reasoning varied, but their purpose was the same. They came to meet God. They came to pursued Him, petitioned Him, and to praise Him. Some bore grief while others brought gifts. But all come to find Him. His temple was always accessible to those who sought Him.
His priests daily served before Him. They never stopped. Nothing superseded their devotion to Him. They were faithful. Dedicated and disciplined they persisted. Morning by morning they ministered to the Lord. Morning by morning they were ministered to by Him. They joyfully worked for Him. Their duty was their delight.
They regularly prepared and performed the daily required offerings. They were not hit and miss in their devotion and dedication to walk in obedience. Every morning, “morning by morning” they met with God at His altar. They were consistent in their commitment. Regularity was their rule.
Yet for many of us consistency is challenging. Our faithfulness often fluctuates. Our duty becomes drudgery. We want regularity in our times with the Lord. We long for morning by morning moments with our master, but find none. Busyness buys all our time. Our discipline diminishes until our devotion disappears.
For the priest it came down to their desire over their duty. Theirs was a deliberate discipline. Theirs was not a choice of options but of obedience. They chose their calling over their circumstances. Morning by morning meetings with the Lord was a heart not a head response. It was delightful devotion. Perhaps our response to our moments with the master should be modeled after what they did.
Today make a decision to have regular moments with the Master. Let your heart be stirred to find these glorious moments. Choose to have regular daily reflections. Make time with Him a delight rather than a duty. Joyfully come daily into His presence, seeking Him that you might regularly find Him morning by morning. Ask the Lord to help you make regularity your rule.
