I'll Ask

Today’s Bible Reading: NUMBERS 8:1-9:14, LEVITICUS 1:1-3:17

Number 9:8

And Moses said to them, “Stand still, that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”

As we journey in our faith, we often encounter spiritual concerns that we can’t seem to resolve. We discover spiritual dilemmas that defy our understanding. We find it difficult to discern what we should do. We are indecisive in how to proceed with our problem. We are at a standstill, but we need not stand still.

God had instructed the children of Israel to prepare themselves to hold the Passover feast. Everyone in the wilderness camp was called to participate (Ex. 12:15). Failure to observe the feast would cause one to be cut off from the camp (Num. 9:13).

There were some men in the camp who were uncertain whether or not they should participate because they were ceremonially unclean from touching a dead body (Num. 19:11). This seemed to be a clash of two laws. They were commanded to take part in the feast and they were command to refrain from partaking in the feast if they were unclean. This was a perplexing predicament. They were at a loss for what to do.

Their quandary led them to bring their query to Moses. His remedy was to see what God said. Moses didn’t seek to impose his own solution to their situation, but consulted the Lord who decreed the commands to bring clarity to their concern. His was not a rash response to resolve the conflict, but a search for a spiritual solution. He didn’t interject his own bias or beliefs to reach a resolution. This difficult dilemma required divine counsel. He sought truth from the source of truth. He inquired of the Lord concerning it. He sought the mind of God in formulating a response. He told them, “I’ll ask”.

Moses’ response should be our recourse. When faced with a spiritual dilemma we need to “Ask Him”. We need to consult the Lord with our concerns. We must not presume that we have a solution for our situation. God doesn’t help those that help themselves, but those who seek Him.

The advice of Moses is your answer. Moses spoke to God at the mercy seat. We enter His presence in prayer. Moses heard from God in the Holy of Holies. We hear from God’s in His Holy Word. You need to “hear what the Lord will command concerning you.” You need to petition the Lord in prayer and listen for what He will say to you in His word.

Today consider how you handle spiritual concerns. Let your quest be to question Him. Commit to lay your request before Him in supplication and listen to His response in scripture. Always let your answer to spiritual ambiguity be, “I’ll ask”. Seek Him, and you will find your solution.
