He Gets US

December 18th

Today's Bible Reading

He Gets Us

Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

We all have our weakness. We don’t always have someone who understands. We can’t always have someone to stand with us in our struggle who has encountered similar trials and temptations. We may not find anyone who has been tested as we are. There may not be anyone  who can sympathize with us. It seems like no one gets us.

It is in our text that we can find help for our situation. Here we can find the strength to continue. It is here where we are told of someone who understands what we are going through and can relate to what we have been though. Jesus is our high priest. He can sympathize with our struggles because He has gone through what we are going through.  He has been tempted as we are. He may not have experienced the same temptation that we have faced, but He has been tempted in a similar manner. It is precisely because He has gone through this that we can go to Him. He sympathizes with our weakness because He has struggled with what makes us weak and won. He understands. He gets us.

The difference in His faith struggle and ours is that although He has been tempted in every respect as we are, He didn’t fall into sin. This is a great encouragement to us. We can confide in Him and count on Him to help us to avoid falling into sin. We can look to Him and lean on Him to enable us to battle temptation. He was tested and stayed true. He can help us to do the same.

We are admonished to draw near to His throne in our times of testing to find someone who is sympathetic to our struggle. We are told that we will receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. We are no longer alone. We don’t have to go through these times of testing by ourselves. We have a great high priest who will walk with us and work with us to forsake sin and who will forgive us when we fall into sin.

Today rejoice that Jesus gets you.
